EVIL Osama bin Laden was responsible
for many of the most horrifi c acts of
terror in the past 20 years.
He will be most remembered for the 9/11
attacks on New York and Washington and
the 2005 London bombings.
■ However, al-Qaida and its associates
are responsible for dozens of other
outrages across the world.

bin Laden’s 10 worst outrages.
9/11 – September 11, 2001
FOUR airliners are hijacked and steered
towards US landmarks.
The terrorists crash two into the Twin
Towers of the World Trade Center in New
York. Both towers collapse within two
hours.
Another plane plunges into the Pentagon
and the fourth crashes in Pennsylvania.
Nearly 3,000 people are killed in the worst
terrorist attack in history.
7/7 – July 7, 2005
FOUR suicide bombers kill 52 people on
three London Underground trains and a
bus. About 700 others are injured.
Al-Qaida’s number two Ayman al-
Zawahiri says the organisation was striking
at “British arrogance”.
Bali bombings – October 12, 2002
THREE devices detonate in a tourist
district on the Indonesian island of Bali.
The attack kills 202 people, including 88
Australians, and injures 240 more.
One bomb was in a backpack carried by a
suicide bomber, another in a car and a
third, much smaller, was detonated outside
the US consulate in Denpasar.
Embassy bombings in Africa –
August 7, 1998
TRUCK bombs go off at US embassies in
Nairobi, Kenya, and Dar es Salaam, Tanzania,
killing 224, including 12 Americans.
The attacks bring bin Laden and Ayman
al-Zawahiri to the attention of the US
public for the fi rst time.
Two weeks later, US President Bill
Clinton launches cruise missiles at sites in
Afghanistan and Sudan.
The FBI puts bin Laden on its 10 Most
Wanted list.
Jordan bombings – November 9, 2005
THREE bombers kill 60 people at three
hotels in Jordan’s capital Amman. The
Grand Hyatt, Radisson SAS and Days Inn
are all used by foreign diplomats.
Algeria bombings –
April and December 2007
ON April 11 suicide bombs kill 33 in
Algiers. The “al-Qaida organisation in the
Islamic Maghreb” claims responsibility.
On December 11 two blasts kill at least 41
people, including 17 United Nations staff,
at UN offi ces in Algiers.
Casablanca bombs – May 16, 2003
CO-ORDINATED blasts at restaurants and
a hotel in Casablanca, Morocco, kill 45
people, including 13 bombers.
Mombasa bombings –
November 28, 2002
THREE suicide car bombers blow up a
hotel popular with Israelis in the Kenyan
resort, killing 15 people.
On the same day, two missiles narrowly
miss an Israeli Arkia Boeing 757 carrying
261 passengers leaving Mombasa.
